The 2 worlds

January 3, 2017

Writing a few lines about 2016 it is difficult to be optimistic with so dramatic situations all over the world, global uncertainty being everywhere then Brexit in Europe, Trump in US, clearly showed that we live in a very unstable world…

However, what I found extraordinary is that business is still looking good as if 2 separate worlds were existing...stock markets are up (FTSE reached highest level ever), investors continue to inject cash and most importantly entrepreneurs continue to create and develop. Is this source of optimism for our future? I hope so….

Clearly, having everybody at work can help to dramatically improve economic situation and stability in a lot of countries…in our small world of technology in Europe, it is a pity with so much money available in the hands of investors, that the main focus remains within the big three, UK, Germany and France, and sometimes with the Nordics as they have rightly a great image of tech innovators…however, there are so many exciting tech companies, start up or much bigger businesses in all the other geographies including Benelux, Switzerland, eastern Europe, Spain, Portugal, Turkey…I am always shocked when meeting ceos locally and asking them if they have been recently in contact with tech investors from London, Paris, Berlin or even from US….90% of the cases, the response is negative !!!!

It is really time for investors to think out of the box, to open their eyes and to go outside their initial interest…not only they will find great companies, but also less competition for the assets and better prices !!!!!and consequently, more jobs created !!!!
